How to Get to Rice University
The Rice University campus is in southwest central Houston at 6100 Main St. Rice is located across Main Street from the Texas Medical Center and is convenient to Reliant Park, downtown, the Museum District, the Rice Village and Hermann Park, which includes the Houston Zoo, an 18-hole golf course and the Houston Museum of Natural Science.
Hobby Airport is the closest airport to the university (about a 30-minute drive in favorable traffic conditions).
George Bush Intercontinental Airport, which is much larger, is generally just under an hour’s drive away, but the drive can take longer in peak traffic times. Shuttle bus service is available from Bush Intercontinental Airport and Hobby Airport to most hotels in the Rice University area.
For more information, contact Airport Express at 713-523-8888. Taxi service to the university costs about twice as much as the airport shuttle bus, and limousine service is typically twice the taxi rate.
If you choose to rent a car, the following directions may be helpful in getting you to Rice:
From Bush Intercontinental Airport: Take Beltway 8 east to Highway 59. Follow Highway 59 south to the Greenbriar exit (you will pass Loop 610, I-10 and I-45 before you reach Greenbriar). Upon exiting, go south (left) on Greenbriar to Rice Boulevard. Turn left onto Rice Boulevard. The Rice campus will be on your right.
From Hobby Airport: Take the main airport exit, which is Broadway Boulevard. Follow Broadway Boulevard to I-45. Follow I-45 north to Highway 59. Follow Highway 59 south to the Greenbriar exit. Upon exiting, go south (left) on Greenbriar to Rice Boulevard. Turn left onto Rice Boulevard. The campus will be on your right.
Local Directions to Rice University
From North or South
1. Those approaching Houston on I-45 North or I-45 South should take the US 59 south exit. From US 59 south, take the Fannin Street exit and travel south on Fannin until you reach Sunset Boulevard. Take a right on Sunset and an immediate left on Main Street. Turn right into the Rice campus using entrance No. 1 or No. 2.
2. Those approaching Houston from the north on US 59 (heading south) should take the Fannin Street exit and travel south on Fannin until you reach Sunset Boulevard. Take a right on Sunset and an immediate left on Main Street. Turn right into the Rice campus using entrance No. 1 or No. 2.
3. Those approaching Houston from the south on US 59 (heading north) should exit at Main Street, stay in the right lane and turn right (south) on Main. Follow Main until you pass the light at Sunset Boulevard. Turn right into the Rice campus using entrance No. 1 or No. 2.
From East or West
1. Those approaching Houston from the west on I-10 East should take 610 South to 59 North and exit at Greenbriar. Stay on the frontage road, turn right (south) on Greenbriar. Follow Greenbriar to the light at Rice Boulevard. Turn left on Rice Boulevard. Stay on Rice Boulevard until it becomes Sunset. Turn right on Main Street and take an immediate right into the Rice campus using entrance No. 1 or No. 2.
2. Those approaching Houston from the east on I-10 West should take the US 59 South exit. From US 59 South, take the Fannin Street exit and travel south on Fannin until you reach Sunset Boulevard. Take a right on Sunset Boulevard and an immediate left on Main Street. Turn right into the Rice campus using entrance No. 1 or No. 2.
3. Those approaching Houston from the northwest on 290 should take 610 South to 59 North and exit at Main Street, stay in the right lane and turn right (south) on Main. Follow Main until you pass the light at Sunset Boulevard. Turn right into the Rice campus using entrance No. 1 or No. 2.

Event Parking
For all visitors: Use North Annex Lot

The next best option for visitor parking is available in the Founder’s Court Visitor Lot in front of Lovett Hall.
To access the lot, enter campus through entrance No. 1 or No. 2 from Main Street; the lot will be located on the left.
If the Founder’s Court Visitor Lot is full, you can park in the Central Campus Garage.
Visitors can expect to pay about $5 per hour for parking with a maximum daily limit of $11.
